Overview

BigBear.ai is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to create custom analytics to perform at scale.  The software engineer will work closely with data scientists and end users to develop innovative analytic tools to further discovery and tradecraft around critical global challenges, then deliver innovative solutions focused on operationalizing data science.


What you will do

  • Design, implement, integrate, and maintain software applications and services.
  • Translate business, system, and customer requirements into technical solutions.
  • Develop clean, maintainable, well-documented, and testable code.
  • Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews.
  • Analyze technical problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Develop unit, integration, system, and automated regression tests.
  • Troubleshoot defects, performance issues, deployment problems, and production incidents.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define interfaces, data flows, and integration requirements.
  • Support continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.
  • Contribute to software documentation, technical procedures, and engineering standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical estimation.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers through design guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to project and technical leadership.
  • Support system deployments, operational readiness activities, and sustainment as needed.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the position and program requirements.

What you need to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology
  • 8 years of professional software development experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Clearance:TS/SCI w/Poly
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering production-quality software.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java, C#, C++, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Experience with software design principles, object-oriented or functional programming, and common development patterns.
  • Experience with source-control systems, code reviews, automated testing, and defect tracking.
  • Experience analyzing requirements and converting them into well-engineered software solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently and collaboratively.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle processes and Agile development practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

What we'd like you to have

  • Experience developing distributed, cloud-based, web-based, embedded, or mission-critical systems.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, messaging systems, or service-oriented architectures.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, or automated deployment pipelines.
