Job Summary

To conduct cognitive assessments for all children on the inpatient rehabilitation unit to include teens and children with traumatic or acquired brain injuries, multi-trauma, spinal cord injury or other new decline in function; coordinate care with multidisciplinary team to aid in patient's return to school setting.

Accountabilities

  • Constructs and administers appropriate assessments of learning, dependent on the severity of injury, to identify learning and cognitive challenges of assigned students.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with hospital multidisciplinary team as well as parents and schools to report daily progress in school work and behavior through reports, charting, phone calls and conferences in an effort to optimize return to school.
  • Meets with all appropriate school-aged children/teens on the inpatient unit daily to facilitate cognitive goals, assist with school work recovery or relearn academic skills to maximize transition back to school upon discharge.
  • Establishes and maintains rules/procedures and budget for the program.
  • Develops and administers a TBI (traumatic brain injury) Education Program to bridge educator gaps in TBI knowledge.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field is required.  Master's Degree in Special Education is preferred
  • 3 years classroom experience; 1 year experience teaching children with cognitive impairments
