We are looking for a talented Electronic Systems Product Engineer to join our team specializing in engineering for our Cummins’ business in Columbus, IN. 

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

Drive product reliability and performance by investigating electronic systems and application issues, identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and owning problem resolution through closure.

Support the development and enhancement of electronic systems by applying and improving engineering processes such as system specification, modeling and simulation, calibration, DVP&R, and troubleshooting.

Influence high-quality product decisions by collaborating with customers, product teams, manufacturing engineers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to provide technical recommendations and actionable insights.

Improve electronic and electrical system performance through informed decisions related to system design, requirements, calibration strategies, and validation activities that impact product quality and functionality.

Lead resolution of increasingly complex technical challenges involving components, subsystems, and systems, ensuring timely and effective solutions while managing technical ambiguity.

Advance engineering excellence and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance development processes, tools, and work practices that support more efficient product development.

Coordinate technical activities and team execution by supporting technicians and temporary employees, helping ensure quality work, project alignment, and successful delivery of engineering objectives.

Contribute as a trusted technical partner within the team by influencing decisions, sharing expertise, driving project progress, and continuously expanding knowledge in electronic applications and systems engineering.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will need the following: 

Develop strong expertise in mechatronics, controls, and systems engineering by translating stakeholder needs into robust system requirements, designing open/closed-loop control solutions, and ensuring seamless integration between hardware and software components.

Apply analytical, modeling, and problem-solving skills to leverage simulation tools, statistical methods, failure mode avoidance techniques, and root cause analysis to improve product performance, reliability, and quality.

Drive successful product execution throughout the lifecycle by managing requirements, validation activities, technical documentation, risk mitigation, and product development milestones while ensuring solutions meet customer and business expectations.

Collaborate effectively and influence cross-functional teams by communicating clearly, integrating diverse stakeholder perspectives into design decisions, making sound engineering judgments, and continuously expanding your technical knowledge and capabilities.

 

U.S. Early Careers Program Eligibility Requirements:

Exempt Entry Level: Designed for external candidates within 2 years of completing their highest level of degree (Bachelor, Master, PhD, MBA, or JD) from an accredited U.S. college/university, and currently reside within the continental U.S.

International Student Eligibility (U.S. based roles): F-1 visa students must have approved Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Occupational Practical Training (OPT) before their Early Career assignment begin. CPT/OPT must relate to their degree and be authorized by their university. Students are responsible for securing this approval through their school’s international office.
