Job DetailsJob Location: Cannon School - Concord, NC 28027The Lead After School Program Counselor helps provide a safe, structured, engaging, and welcoming environment for students in Cannon School’s After School Program. In addition to performing the responsibilities of an After School Program Counselor, the Lead Counselor oversees the daily operation of an assigned room or student group, provides direction and support to assigned counselors, and helps ensure program expectations and procedures are implemented consistently. This position reports to the Director of Enrichment Programs. Responsibilities Provide active and consistent supervision of students. Oversee the daily operation of an assigned room or student group. Provide direction, support, and accountability to counselors assigned to the room. Coordinate daily routines, activities, transitions, and dismissal. Delegate responsibilities and help ensure staff remain engaged and prepared. Promote a safe, positive, inclusive, and nurturing program environment. Plan and lead structured, developmentally appropriate educational and recreational activities. Support students with homework, independent reading, and other program activities. Build positive relationships with students and model appropriate behavior. Reinforce Cannon School and After School Program expectations. Use positive and developmentally appropriate behavior-support strategies. Support staff in addressing student behavior and communicate significant concerns to program leadership. Oversee attendance, recordkeeping, and compliance with dismissal procedures for the assigned group. Respond appropriately to student incidents and help ensure concerns are communicated and documented. Maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces. Communicate professionally with students, families, colleagues, and school personnel. Communicate staffing, student, safety, facility, or supply concerns to program leadership. Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries. Demonstrate punctuality, dependability, flexibility, initiative, and sound judgment. Attend required trainings and staff meetings. Follow Cannon School policies and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience working with school-age children preferred. Previous leadership, camp, childcare, education, or youth-program experience preferred.
