Job DetailsJob Location: Westport, CT 06880Position Type: Part TimePosition Summary Under the direction of the Director, the Teacher will supervise and effectively lead students in a variety of activities.  Teachers will provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers; will be actively involved in all School Age Child Care (SACC) activities and will maintain a positive attitude at all times. Teachers will represent the YMCA positively to the students and families.  In addition to normal weekday hours, School age staff must be available to work a minimum of 13 vacation camp days that occur during the year when school is not in session.  Essential Functions 1.    Supervises a group of children. 2.    Plans and implements program activities which are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. 3.    Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. 4.    Attends staff meetings and trainings. 5.    Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. 6.    Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. 7.    Ensures that administrative functions are performed including attendance, incident/accident reports, parent communication and medication appointments.  8.    Guide and provide assistance to other SACC staff working within the program. Work with the Director to ensure program and staffing quality.  9.    Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: 1.    Desire and ability to work with children. Previous experience working with children preferably in a child care, youth program or day camp setting.  2.    At least 17 years of age for teachers and 20 for head teachers.  3.    Completion of required training within 1 week of hire as well as obtaining any certifications required for position prior to start. 4.    Physical ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid, and to continually supervise campers.  5.    Demonstrated ability to communicate, supervise and work with assigned ages and skill levels and provide necessary instructions to enforce safety regulations. 6.    Willingness to accept supervision and guidance 7.    Good role model, integrity, and adaptability YMCA Competencies (Leader) Mission Advancement: Accepts and demonstrates the Y’s values.
