About the Role

The Student Worker - First-Year Experience (FYE) Student Success Assistant position is designed to support the success, engagement, and transition of first-year students at Thomas More University. This role serves as a welcoming first point of contact in the First-Year Experience space, providing peer support and helping students navigate common university processes and resources. The student worker will assist students with questions related to university systems, direct them to appropriate campus offices, and provide guidance on routine tasks such as uploading documents, accessing technology, and understanding university procedures. In addition, the position supports the planning and implementation of First-Year Experience programs, workshops, and student engagement activities while assisting the FYE staff with daily office operations. This role provides valuable leadership and professional development opportunities while contributing to a positive, supportive, and student-centered campus environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Thomas More University in good academic standing.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with students.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Comfortable learning and using university technology systems, including Microsoft Office and Canvas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in student leadership, orientation, mentoring, customer service, or campus employment.
  • Familiarity with Thomas More University resources, policies, and student support services.
  • Experience planning or assisting with campus events or programs.
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.
  • Passion for helping new students succeed and feel connected to the university community.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome students visiting the First-Year Experience space and provide friendly, professional assistance.
  • Answer general questions about university resources, services, and processes, referring students to appropriate offices when necessary.
  • Assist students with routine tasks such as navigating Canvas, uploading documents, accessing university systems, and understanding registration-related processes.
  • Support the planning, promotion, setup, and execution of First-Year Experience programs, workshops, and student engagement events.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including data entry, organizing materials, preparing resources, and maintaining a welcoming office environment.
  • Help communicate important deadlines, events, and opportunities to first-year students.
  • Collaborate with FYE staff to promote student success initiatives and foster a welcoming campus community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the First-Year Experience program.
