Our client, an established short-term insurance brokerage based in Pretoria East, is seeking two Junior Short-Term Insurance Underwriters to join their growing underwriting team. The role is suited to industry-qualified individuals in the early stages of their careers who are looking to build long-term expertise in personal and commercial lines. Full mentorship and structured development will be provided within a close-knit, supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, rate and process new business, renewals, endorsements and cancellations across personal and commercial lines
  • Prepare and issue quotations, comparative quotes and policy schedules within agreed turnaround times
  • Review risk information, supporting documentation and survey reports to determine acceptable terms and conditions
  • Apply underwriting guidelines and delegated authority, referring risks outside of mandate to senior underwriters or insurer partners
  • Liaise with insurers, brokers and clients regarding cover queries, amendments and outstanding requirements
  • Conduct annual renewal reviews, including sum insured adequacy, premium adjustments and re-broking where required
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client, policy and risk records on the brokerage administration system
  • Follow up on outstanding documentation, FICA requirements, debit order mandates and premium collections
  • Support the claims department by confirming cover and policy status at the time of loss
  • Assist with the preparation of underwriting reports and management information
  • Ensure all activity complies with FAIS, TCF, POPIA and internal compliance requirements
  • Maintain product knowledge and complete annual CPD requirements
  • Provide general administrative support to the underwriting department as required


Requirements

  • NQF Level 4 qualification in Short-Term Insurance (minimum 150 FAIS credits) or equivalent
  • RE5 Regulatory Examination completed
  • Fit and Proper in terms of FAIS legislation
  • Practical exposure to short-term insurance underwriting, whether through a learnership, internship or 1–2 years' experience
  • Working knowledge of personal and/or commercial lines products
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Confident written and verbal communication in English; Afrikaans proficiency advantageous
  • Computer literate in MS Office; experience on an insurance administration system (Cardinal, Flexi, TIAL or similar) advantageous
  • A collaborative, service-oriented approach and a genuine willingness to learn
