Responsibilities
1. Completes psychological assessments, psychological screens, addendums, family assessments, and other assessments as needed; submits assessments for supervision within 24 to 48 hours of completion.2. Conducts individual, group, and family therapy services to youth supervised by the Dallas County Juvenile Department. Completes written progress notes and documentation in a timely manner.
3. Attends and participates in trainings, supervision and other meetings with psychology staff that aid in the effective provision of clinical services to juvenile department youth and families.
4. Provides on-site stabilization of youth experiencing a mental-health crisis.
5. Serves as a consultant to administration, probation officers, court personnel, education department, attorneys, and institution professionals.
6.Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Experience and Training:Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university doctoral (i.e. PhD or PsyD) program in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology.
Applicants must have completed the following:
Ā· Three (3) years of graduate coursework in their current field
Ā· 500 hours of supervised practicum work
Ā· All required doctoral course work
Ā· Successfully proposed their dissertation
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, department, and the general public. Must possess a valid Texas Driverās License, with a good driving record. Must pass an extensive background investigation. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and during employment will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol test.
The 12-month internship begins in August each year and is designed to be carried out over 40-45 hours per week, 10-15 of which will be spent in direct client care (face-to-face). Actual time may vary due to time needed to complete reports and other paperwork, make telephone contact, engage in case management, or attend special meetings. The completion of at least 2,000 total hours is required for the internship program, with at least 25% of the internsā time spent in direct client care. The internship precedes the granting of a doctoral degree and is post-practicum/externship.
āPosition requires working with juveniles who may have committed dangerous/aggressive acts; should possess a high tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding/stressful work environment.ā
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
ā¢ Standard office environment. Must be able to visit various off-site locations.
ā¢ An employee may be transferred to another department, shift, location, or facility based on the needs of the Department.
ā¢ Working in a 24-hour facility may make the employee subject to working mandatory overtime or remaining on duty and working all, or a part of, an additional shift (ādouble shiftā).
ā¢ The incumbent is / may be considered to be āessential personnelā subject to being held over or called back to a work location or alternate site at all times. When required, you will be notified by your supervisor.
