Job DetailsJob Location: Dallas Campus - Dallas, TX 75204Position Type: Full Time, Salaried, ExemptSalary Range: $48,080.00 - $51,000.00 Salary/yearJob Category: On CampusJob Summary   The Cataloging and Serials Librarian (CSL) is responsible for creating and editing metadata records for library collection resources of all kinds. CSL also oversees ordering and receipt of serials, binding of books and serials, and processing theses/dissertations. The CSL oversees one part time student worker and reports to the head of Metadata Services.   Duties/Responsibilities Receive and catalog library collection resources (mostly print books and periodicals). Catalog library resources according to national standards, such as RDA, LC Classification, LCSH, MARC21 formats, and other metadata standards, including local policies, procedures, and practices. Verify or assign appropriate classification numbers, subject headings and other access points as required. Enhance minimum level bibliographic records and create original cataloging records for new editions, as needed. Create new name authority records when needed. Receive books in the mail and process in WMS and create Local Holding Records (LHRs) and create labels for physical items with correct location info for end processing. Correct and maintain LHRs, including location, call number, volume or copy designations, etc. as needed. Process weeded items. Manage serials/periodicals Order/renew/claim/cancel periodical subscriptions. Receive and inspect new periodical issues, and process the received items in WMS. Maintain accurate holding records of library serials subscriptions. Prepare books and periodicals for binding. Manage shipments to bindery as well as shipments to Houston and DC extension items. Receive and process theses, dissertations, and copyright releases, so pdfs are submitted to ProQuest and TREN and DTS depository. Maintain cataloging, serials, and thesis/dissertation operation manuals. Maintain statistics for cataloging and periodical subscriptions. Perform other library duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduate library degree (MLS, MLIS, etc.); knowledge of metadata standards and processes (required) 1+ year of experience in metadata services (preferred) Experience using OCLC cataloging products; experience using OCLC WMS (preferred) Accurate, detail-oriented, organized Able to manage change, able to plan and execute, able to train/develop staff and supervise Sees value in creating good discovery systems and wants a career in metadata services Physical Requirements Must be able to lift 20-pound boxes Must be able to work prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
