Woodshop Department Supervisor – 2nd Shift

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Supervisor to lead our Woodshop Department on the 2nd Shift. This position is responsible for overseeing daily production activities, leading and developing employees, maintaining quality and safety standards, and ensuring production schedules are achieved efficiently and cost-effectively.

Bilingual communication skills are a vital requirement for this position. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with employees at all levels, provide clear direction and training, and foster a productive and positive working environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute the daily production schedule while maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations and ensuring products conform to established quality standards.

  • Achieve optimum productivity and employee efficiency levels while minimizing overhead and raw material costs.

  • Direct and monitor section leads to accomplish production schedule goals consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures.

  • Act as a liaison between department management and subordinate levels, communicating policies, procedures, expectations, and matters affecting employee performance.

  • Work closely with Human Resources to support employee retention, training, development, and staffing/capacity needs.

  • Hire, train, develop, and evaluate staff.

  • Take corrective action as necessary, in a timely manner and in accordance with company policy.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company safety regulations.

  • Recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce costs, waste, and scrap; monitor scrap and rework data.

  • Implement and maintain production standards and manufacturing procedures.

  • Implement programs related to training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, employee involvement, security, and other operational initiatives.

  • Ensure projects are completed according to production schedules and transferred to the following department on time.

  • Propose, develop, and implement optimal and cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods for furniture manufacturing, working directly with Engineering and Product Development.

  • Efficiently manage manpower and equipment capacity according to production schedules and customer needs.

  • Assign employee shifts and department hours of operation to fulfill production activities in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

  • Conduct periodic performance and attendance evaluations of direct reports and communicate progress to management and Human Resources.

  • Motivate direct reports and collaborate with peers to achieve common company goals while developing employee skills and promoting a positive working environment.

  • Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new or revised products, including establishing production standards, reviewing Bills of Materials (BOMs), training team members, and evaluating results.

  • Apply statistical analysis methods and perform product/process analysis to support cost reduction, quality improvement, and increased efficiency.

  • Identify problems and propose solutions to reduce waste and cycle time while improving overall business results.

  • Evaluate and improve operational processes by reducing or eliminating non-value-added activities.

  • Track production flow, prioritize manufacturing activities, and execute plans established by upper management through team collaboration.

  • Oversee proper equipment operation and operator maintenance routines to minimize equipment malfunctions and damage.

  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.

  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing, production, woodworking, furniture, or related environment preferred.

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively lead, train, motivate, and develop a diverse production team.

  • Ability to work 2nd shift and support the operational needs of the Woodshop Department.

  • Ability to effectively communicate production expectations, safety requirements, quality standards, and company policies to employees.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, productivity, quality, safety, and continuous improvement principles.
