Overview

Framed within the mission, vision, and the Blank Children’s Hospital Advocacy and Outreach plan, is responsible for collaborating with multidisciplinary professionals in static and simulation education focused on the care of pediatric and neonatal patients. Program design is based on the needs of the hospitals and institutions within the referral or networking region of Blank Children’s Hospital. This position will be responsible for providing monthly educational sessions for referring facilities. Successful completion of these responsibilities is seen in the enhancement of quality in the delivery of education and is congruent with the mission and vision of Blank Children’s Hospital. The overall goal is to be recognized as a leading resource in neonatal, pediatric, and OB education for medical professionals.

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Education:

Works collaboratively with referring facilities by developing offerings to meet educational needs.

Collaborate with transport services to provide education in the region.

Functions as a course coordinator for PALS, PEARS and Heart Code classes as needed including equipment maintenance, classroom teaching and continual monitoring of AAP and AHA course guidelines.

Provides appropriate resource support for regional hospitals and other related institutions.

Provides regional site visits as needed or requested.

Strategically plans and offers bimonthly educational offerings, including webinars on pediatric, neonatal and OB topics.

Project coordinator, including budget management for yearly medical education conferences.

Accepts responsibility for maintaining and developing own skill and knowledge in the clinical area.

Assists in clinical areas as needed within scope of practice.

Manages the Visiting Nurse Experience while providing exceptional customer education.

Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

Maintains awareness of national guidelines related to care of the pediatric patient.

Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to other’s views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals and put the success of the team above own interests.

Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.

Conducts all activities as an ambassador of Blank Children’s Hospital, resulting in positive relationship-building and good will toward the organization.

Integrates the UnityPoint Health Des Moines Nursing Expectations of Performance in all aspects of care delivery and professional practice.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of accredited nursing program.

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

 

Experience:

Positive professional image including public speaking experience.

Ability to work with community and state agencies and groups.

Prior teaching experience required.

Prior work with high fidelity mannequins preferred.

Must have prior experience in program development, implementation, evaluation and coordination.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor preferred.

 

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current nursing license in state of Iowa.

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
