Sales Associate: Outdoor Living & Home Décor

Department: Garden Center – Des Plaines

Reports To: 1. Home and Outdoor Living Manager (HOLM)

JOB SUMMARY: Work as a member of the Lurvey Garden Center Team to assist with unpacking, displaying, and selling Gift, Home Decor, and Outdoor Living products- including outdoor furniture, pottery, and fountains.  Abide by and model – EVERYBODY SERVES!

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Communicate with the HOLM and other departments to facilitate customer needs
• Communicate with customers regarding their inquiries and purchases
• Collaborate with the HOLM on unpacking, checking in, pricing, displaying, and selling Gift, Home Décor, and Outdoor Living product lines (outdoor furniture, pottery, fountains)
• Assist in maintaining clean, attractive, and functional merchandising presentations across these categories
• Support seasonal setups and transitions for both indoor and outdoor merchandise

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:

• Superb customer service skills and a willingness to learn
• Ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking is essential
• Strong problem solving skills and computer skills, including Excel is a plus
• Ability to discern customer needs and guide them in the purchasing process—including outdoor living items such as furniture, pottery, and fountain solutions
• Ability to complete tasks in the appropriate time frame, be organized, responsible, and a self-starter
• Knowledge of business and computer-based tools
• Physical requirements include light-duty work (exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, and negligible amounts constantly)
• Other physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing for sustained periods, walking long distances, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, and hearing
• Visual acuity required to ensure accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, especially when handling outdoor living products

Credentials and Experience:

• Previous retail experience in the garden center, outdoor living, home décor, or home living categories preferred
• Minimum high school diploma or GED (degree or certification in Horticulture - a plus)
