Job Description Summary

We are searching for a CNC Grinding Development Specialist, that will lead the development, optimization, and implementation of internal diameter (ID) and outside diameter (OD) & surface grinding processes for precision components.
The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience with grinding equipment, wheel selection, workholding, process parameters, coolant management, dressing technologies, and CNC grinding processes. As part of the Process Development/ Prototype Machining Group within the Driveline organization of Dauch. This will be based out of our Advanced Technology Development Center in Detroit, Michigan.

Job Description:

  • Develop and optimize ID and OD grinding processes for new and existing products.
  • Select appropriate grinding wheels, abrasives, dressing systems, coolants, and workholding methods.
  • Develop CNC grinding programs and optimize existing programs for quality and productivity.
  • Conduct process trials, capability studies, and run-at-rate evaluations.

Establish grinding parameters including:

  • Wheel speed
  • Work speed
  • Infeed rates
  • Plunge and traverse cycles
  • Spark-out
  • Dressing frequency and parameters
  • Coolant flow and concentration

Troubleshoot grinding issues such as:

  • Taper
  • Out-of-roundness
  • Chatter
  • Burning
  • Poor surface finish
  • Wheel loading
  • Dimensional instability
  • Excessive wheel wear

•All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in precision ID/OD grinding.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC grinding equipment and grinding process development.
  • Experience with grinding wheels, abrasives, dressing technologies, and coolant systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances and surface-finish requirements.
  • Experience troubleshooting grinding defects and process variation.
  • Ability to use precision measurement equipment such as micrometers, air gauges, bore gauges, profilometers, and roundness/form measurement equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, quality, and production teams.
  • Studer CNC Grind experience is a plus.
