Saw Supervisor

Role Overview

The Saw Supervisor leads day-to-day saw department operations in a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for directing employees, coordinating material movement, prioritizing saw work, supporting safety and quality expectations, maintaining department readiness, and ensuring completed work moves efficiently to the next operation.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and support saw department employees, including material handlers, billet saw operators, and finish saw operators.
  • Prioritize available jobs, assign daily work, and distribute cutting requirements to saw operators.
  • Coordinate material flow by generating movement lists and directing the movement of steel into and out of the saw area.
  • Ensure completed jobs are transferred to the proper next department or operation in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate incoming steel to ensure it is identified, weighed, stored, and accurately recorded for inventory entry.
  • Support scrap handling by coordinating the loading and shipping of scrap boxes.
  • Maintain saw department readiness by monitoring saw blade inventory and managing related receipts.
  • Oversee crane scale calibration, function, and follow-up to support accurate material handling and recording.
  • Create, track, and follow up on nonconformance reports originating in the saw area.
  • Conduct safety contact meetings, support monthly safety training, and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the saw area.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing, saw, machine shop, material handling, or related production environment.
  • Ability to lead employees, assign work, set priorities, and follow up on daily production needs.
  • Ability and willingness to learn material movement, steel identification, inventory accuracy, and production workflow requirements.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, traceability, documentation, and housekeeping standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with operators, material handlers, clerical support, and other departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior supervisory, lead, or coordinator experience in a production environment.
  • Experience with saw operations, inventory systems, production records, NCR follow-up, crane scales, or saw blade inventory.
  • Experience coordinating material movement, scrap handling, production priorities, or cross-department workflow.
  • Ability to read and understand sketches, prints, and related production requirements.

Work Environment

This position works in a manufacturing and saw department environment with regular interaction on the shop floor. The role requires attention to safety, equipment awareness, material handling activity, and consistent communication with production employees and support departments.
