Job Summary: 

Equestrian Center Staff members are responsible for the daily care of the horses and facilities. Staff members work with other student staff and the Equestrian Center Stable Manager to meet the basic care and management needs of the horses. Staff members are also responsible for the upkeep of the facility to maintain a safe and clean environment for working and learning. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Complete general stable work including cleaning stalls, feeding horses hay and grain, watering, turning horses in and out, and other routine stable chores
  2. Contribute fairly to a variety of hours including mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, holidays and breaks. 
  3. Provide supplemental care for horses including blanketing, bathing, administering supplements, hand walking as needed, occasional grooming
  4. Maintain overall cleanliness of facility including the mezzanine, restrooms, feed room, hay stalls, turnout fields, common areas, grounds
  5. Complete maintenance projects and other extra chores as assigned including decobwebbing, scrubbing fences, painting, pulling weeds, shoveling snow 

Education Employment Eligibility:

  1. Currently enrolled Delaware Valley University student
  2. Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Previous horse experience preferred, but not required
  2. Completion of the Equine Practicum course preferred, but not required
  3. Ability to operate a small electric Gator, golf cart or similar piece of farm equipment preferred, but not required 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

  1. Frequently lifting 50 lbs. or more
  2. Typically standing or walking
  3. Sometimes bending, crouching, stooping
  4. Outdoor exposure to weather
  5. Exposure to moving machinery 
  6. Exposure to unpleasant odors
  7. Exposure to animal feces and specimens
  8. May be exposed to animal bites, scratches and contagious diseases
  9. High dust, dirt, grease environment
