Job Summary:
Undergraduate laboratory assistant for General Microbiology. Student is responsible for preparing a wide variety of microbial growth media and reagents as well as maintaining stock solutions. This position will also involve training in the utilization of an autoclave to sterilize media and biohazardous waste. Finally, student will assist in maintaining a clean laboratory environment and cleaning glassware. Applicants should have a basic background in general chemistry and biology and expect to work approximately 6 hours a week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare liquid and solid media used in microbiology lab
- Sterilize media and biohazardous using autoclave
- Help prepare biological samples to be used in microbiology lab
- Assist in maintaining laboratory reagent stocks
- Clean glassware and other containers and materials used in lab
- Other duties as assigned
Education Employment eligibility:
- Currently enrolled Delaware Valley University student
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Background in introductory biology (Earned grade B or above)
- Background in basic chemistry (Earned grade B or above)
- Ability to independently manage schedule

- Typically standing or walking
- Exposure to chemicals
- Exposure to unpleasant odors
- High noise environment
- May have an alternative work schedule
