We are hiring a  Chief Medical Scientist - Microbiology into our Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
 
 Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operation and performance of the Microbiology Service, ensuring high standards of quality, efficiency, and patient-centred care.

  • Provide strategic, clinical, and professional leadership to deliver an effective, efficient, and quality-assured laboratory service.

  • Collaborate with pathology, laboratory, and hospital management to develop and implement strategic plans, projects, and service improvements.

  • Lead the implementation of new procedures, technologies, IT systems, equipment upgrades, and innovative methodologies within the Microbiology Service.

  • Ensure compliance with laboratory accreditation and quality standards, including ISO 15189, JCI, INAB, HIQA, IVDR, and relevant legislation and regulations.

  • Oversee quality assurance, risk management, audits, non-conformances, complaints, policies, procedures, and the ongoing maintenance of laboratory accreditation.

  • Promote a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation, hospital safety policies, emergency procedures, and regular safety audits.

  • Lead education, training, research, and continuing professional development initiatives for medical scientists, students, and multidisciplinary staff.

  • Manage financial, administrative, human, IT, equipment, and stock resources effectively while ensuring delivery of a cost-effective, high-quality service.

  • Support effective staff management through recruitment, induction, scheduling, performance development, training, motivation, communication, and promotion of positive working relationships.



Requirements

  • Hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science, Biomedical Science, or Medical Laboratory Science from a recognised Irish institution, or an equivalent qualification validated by ACSLM.

  • Possess an approved NFQ Level 9 postgraduate qualification in Clinical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Biomedical Science, Molecular Pathology, or an equivalent Level 9 qualification validated by ACSLM.

  • Candidates holding the Fellowship examination of the Institute of Biomedical Science, awarded prior to 1999, may also meet the postgraduate qualification requirement.

  • Have a minimum of seven years’ full-time clinical experience, or an aggregate equivalent, as a Medical Scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory following qualification.

  • Have at least two years’ experience in a promotional post, demonstrating relevant professional and supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and skills.

  • Be registered with CORU or eligible for registration/membership, as required for the position.
