Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for procedures by ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are available, functional, and aligned with surgeon preferences.Â
- Assist with patient preparation, positioning, draping, and transfer activities to support safe, efficient surgical care.Â
- Maintain strict sterile technique and infection prevention standards throughout surgical procedures.Â
- Anticipate surgeon needs by passing instruments, managing retractors, applying suction, and providing procedural support.Â
- Perform surgical counts and assist with specimen handling, labeling, and transport to ensure accuracy and patient safety.Â
- Support circulating nurse responsibilities and collaborate closely with the perioperative team to deliver exceptional patient care.Â
- Clean, restock, and prepare operating rooms between procedures to maintain workflow efficiency.Â
- Promote compliance with safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards, including HIPAA, OSHA, AORN, AAMI, and DNV requirements.Â
- Mentor students and new team members, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and support a culture of continuous learning and teamwork.Â
Qualifications
Education:Â
- High school diploma or GED required. Â
- Graduate from an accredited education program for Surgical Technology, OR graduate from an appropriate training program in the US Armed Forces OR Medical Certification OR LPN required. Â
Experience:Â
- Previous surgical technologist or equivalent experience preferred. Â
License(s)/Certification(s):Â
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire through the American Heart Association. Â
- IL & IA Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training in state(s) where providing care required within 60 days of hire.
- IL & IA Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 60 days of hire. Â
