At ERT, we are thrilled to partner with the DoD Skillbridge program to help transitioning service members, from all branches of the U.S. Military, prepare for new opportunities and connections in their careers. As an approved DoD partner, we are excited to announce the launch of our very first SkillBridge cohort. We are offering three 12-week internships in Corporate IT and Cybersecurity.  Participants will support ERT’s corporate IT environment by managing network infrastructure, maintaining identity systems, ensuring endpoint security, assisting with compliance initiatives, and contributing to effective IT service delivery. You will work closely with our IT leadership and managed service providers (MSPs) to support day-to-day operations, learn how corporate IT functions in a GovCon setting, and gain hands-on experience with modern cloud and security tools.

What You’ll Learn
During this internship, you will gain:

  • Hands-on exposure to Azure and Microsoft 365 administration in a real-world corporate/GovCon environment.
  • Experience with Tier 1 Cloud services and architecture.
  • Experience working a Tier 1 service desk, including ticket management, escalation paths, and user support.
  • Practical understanding of cybersecurity in a regulated environment (CMMC, NIST 800-171, MFA, secure baselines).
  • Insight into how corporate IT, cybersecurity, and government contracting intersect.
  • Mentorship from experienced IT and cyber professionals and exposure to real transformation and modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Azure & Cloud Management (Intro/Junior Level)

  • Assist with basic Azure administration tasks (e.g., user and group management, role assignments, resource tagging, basic monitoring).
  • Help review and document Azure policies, security settings, and cost management dashboards.
  • Support inventory and organization of cloud resources in alignment with corporate standards.
     

Microsoft 365 & Identity

  • Help manage accounts in Microsoft 365 (user provisioning/deprovisioning, license checks, password resets under supervision).
  • Assist with Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange Online basic administration and troubleshooting.
  • Document common end-user issues and create simple “how-to” guides and FAQs.
     

Help Desk & Tech Support

  • Provide Tier 1 support to internal users (ticket intake, triage, basic troubleshooting for laptops, printers, VPN, M365, etc.).
  • Log, track, and update tickets in the IT service desk system, escalating complex issues when needed.
  • Assist with laptop imaging, software installs, updates, and asset tracking.
     

Cybersecurity & Compliance – Introduction

  • Support basic activities related to cybersecurity hygiene (patch status reviews, MFA checks, phishing awareness follow-up).
  • Help maintain and organize documentation related to policies, procedures, and compliance (e.g., CMMC / NIST 800-171 related artifacts).
  • Participate in reviews of security events or reports under the guidance of senior staff.
     

Corporate IT in a GovCon Environment

  • Observe and support how Corporate IT coordinates with contracts, HR, growth/business development, and project teams.
  • Assist in documenting IT onboarding/offboarding processes for employees and subcontractors.
  • Help update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and checklists.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently serving as an Active Duty military service member and eligible for the SkillBridge program.
  • Basic familiarity with Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Strong customer service mindset with the ability to communicate clearly with non-technical users.
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and document what you learn.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to or coursework in cloud computing (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Interest in or basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts (MFA, phishing, patching, secure configurations).
  • Experience with help desk work, PC troubleshooting, or supporting friends/family with tech issues.
  • Familiarity with ticketing tools (e.g., Jira Service Management, ServiceNow, Zendesk, etc.) is a plus.

Education
Currently pursuing (or recently completed) a degree or certificate program in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Location
Work may be performed remotely with 2-3 days/week in person at ERT's Tysons Corner location. 

Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is approximately $18-20/hour. This range is a good-faith estimate based on similar work at ERT. ERT uses several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the position's scope and expected duties, and a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.  

Benefits
This position is not eligible for benefits. Sick leave will be acquired according to Federal and State regulations.

Duration
This internship will last approximately 12 weeks.
