The Truancy Officer ensures students are attending school regularly by investigating causes of unexcused or excessive absences, communicating with families, and assisting them in problem-solving, issuing attendance-based warnings, and helping to represent the school if cases go to court.Ā

Coordinates school-wide attendance efforts and absenteeism prevention programming with a two-fold focus 1) educating families on the importance of attendance with a focus on prevention and 2) intervening to fix the underlying issues that lead to absenteeism;Ā
Works to monitor student adherence to the schoolās attendance policies, including student information systems, state systems, and company systems daily.Ā
ForĀ lower-levelĀ truancy concerns: Emails, calls and sends auto-dial notices toĀ targetĀ student population;Ā
For escalated truancy concerns, Truancy Officer holds meetings with student and family to address concerns,Ā identifyĀ barriers, and provide back-on-track planning.Ā
For final level truancy concerns,Ā meetings areĀ held withĀ students, family, and support.Ā Ā
Offer restoration to students, including truancy agreements and courses.Ā
Meeting covers state law concerns, as the next step will have the student go to courtĀ
Works with county court systems, understanding requirements to process juvenile court petitionsĀ
Collaborates with authorizer to ensure best practices, final level truancy concerns, training etc.Ā
Ensures state compliancy guidelines are met for student attendance and progressĀ
Produces attendance/truancy reports for the school,Ā countyĀ and state. Must have Excel fluency.āÆĀ
Works with the Student Support Team toĀ assistĀ students in situations where referral to service agenciesĀ areĀ necessary;Ā
Works with families and teachers to develop individualized action plans to increase student attendance and engagement;Ā
Works with the Executive Director, manager,Ā etcĀ to develop improved procedures that address attendance;Ā
Works with families and student support staff to prevent juvenile delinquency;Ā
Develops and implements educational workshops related to absenteeism for school staff and families;Ā
AssistsĀ staff on projectsĀ regardingĀ student attendance/truancy.Ā
Ensures school policy and state requirements are metĀ regardingĀ all attendance withdrawals;Ā

MINIMUMĀ REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:āÆĀ āÆĀ
Ā
Associate degreeĀ or specialized related trainingĀ
One to two years of truancy experience ORĀ
Equivalent combination of education and experience.Ā
Ability to pass required background check.Ā
Ā
OTHER REQUIREDĀ QUALIFICATIONS:āÆĀ Ā
Ā
Knowledge of state school attendance laws, and other pertinent lawsĀ regardingĀ K-12 education;Ā
Knowledge of state specific court proceduresĀ regardingĀ truancy;Ā
Familiarity with online learning environment;Ā
Strong organizational and time management skills;Ā
Strong written and verbal communication skills;Ā
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.);Ā
Ability to travel 20% of the time;Ā
Ā
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Ā
Ā
Three (3) years of experience working with families in similar capacity,Ā enrollmentĀ orĀ truancy.Ā
Post-secondary degree especially in Education, Counseling, HumanĀ ServicesĀ or related field of study.Ā
