Veterinary Assistant

About the Job

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring that clients and their pets receive excellent care at every visit. You will be expected to: 

• Assist veterinarians in appointments and surgery.
• Perform technical duties such as venipuncture, catheter placement, proper restraint, collect and prepare laboratory samples, radiographic positioning, dental prophylaxis, and anesthetic monitoring.
• Provide client education in pet care, so you must be well versed in regards to various medical procedures and preventive care for pets.
• Perform reception duties such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, performing financial transactions, and assisting clients as necessary.

• 1-2+ years of previous experience in a veterinary hospital setting as a technician or assistant is preferred
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be dependable with a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
  
• Someone with good observational skills and attention to detail
• A high school diploma or equivalent is required
• A 2 or 4 year degree in a science-related field is preferred
• The ability to meet the physical demands of working a 10+ hour shift standing, squatting, walking, lifting and carrying 50 lbs unassisted
• Someone who is comfortable and able to work with all breeds, temperaments, and sizes of dogs and cats
