Job Overview:

We are currently seeking a Pipeline Instrumentation and Electrical Technician that will be based at our East Chicago, IN location.

The overall objective of the Pipeline Instrumentation and Electrical Technician is to ensure the safe and reliable operation of multiple pipeline stations. Many of these stations are located on customer sites. The Pipeline Instrumentation Technician will be responsible for the identification, development, and implementation of preventive/predictive programs and corrective maintenance solutions for instrument systems along the pipeline. This person will be expected to work independently and make technical decisions and recommendations in the field.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot industrial instruments such as: transmitters, PLC systems, meters, analyzers, automatic valves, etc.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems including 480 VAC electrical power systems.

  • Understand and operate switchgear control systems, safely rack breakers in and out.

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot pipeline remote communication systems (i.e. cellular, IT networking devices, datalogging devices, etc.).

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot pipeline pneumatic control systems (i.e. pneumatic PID controllers, pneumatic low-pressure pilots, and pressure reducing regulators)

  • Develop, plan, schedule, coordinate and perform preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Assist in root cause analysis activities for major failures.
  • Read and Maintain P&IDs and Schematic wiring diagrams in compliance with SOP’s, QA, and MOC policies.
  • Identifying and resolving chronic (bad actors) or longer term (threats) instrumentation asset concerns.
  • Assist in project planning and cost estimation of instrumentation work.
  • Identify and implement new technologies and specify new instrument systems.
  • Lead Procal (Instrumentation Calibration/ Asset management Software) implementation and compliance activities within the facility.
  • Assess equipment performance data and ensure optimal and efficient performance.
  • Drive resolution of highest impact issues with a strong sense of urgency and integrity.
  • Support satellite pipelines in Ecorse Michigan & Kansas City Missouri when needed – 10%25 travel required.

 

This position requires a combination of office work and field work. Employee will be required to work in different weather conditions. The job occasionally requires overtime and callouts on weekend, nights, and holidays.



Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or Engineering Technology Degree in Instrumentation/Electronics and minimum of 2 years of experience in the maintenance of instrumentation systems and equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in installation, troubleshooting, repairs, testing and calibration of industrial instrumentation systems and equipment.
  • Proven knowledge of Preventive and Predictive maintenance of industrial instrumentation systems and equipment.
  • Excellent communication and team interaction skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as lead/participate on teams.
  • Proven experience as a self-starter who effectively manages multiple tasks and achieves results with minimal supervision.
  • Proven experience in computers and standard software packages (MS Office, E-Mail etc.).
  • Ability to travel ~10%25 of the time

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven understanding of regulatory and industrial standards and codes.
  • Proven understanding of process control systems and methodology in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in Asset Management systems such as Infor EAM and Procal.
