Job Description

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry.  We are looking for a dedicated Electrical Engineer II to join our talented team at our office in Emeryville, California.

 

In this role, you will assist in planning, designing, and directing electrical engineering projects within the Design Department. Assignments contain specific tasks on project teams and the Electrical Engineer is expected to use their education, creativity, and expertise to resolve the engineering problems and tasks as assigned. 

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Prepares design computations and quantity estimates and develops probable construction cost estimates for the smaller, less complex projects within the business unit (medium voltage power distribution, low voltage systems, fire alarm systems, backup power generation, electrical power distribution, life safety systems, etc.).
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
  • Modifies reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for projects.
  • Makes calculations using engineering formulas and skills for design such as lighting calculations, power distribution calculations, equipment sizing, etc.
  • Creates specialized drawings such as electrical riser diagrams.
  • Selects equipment based on recommendations of the Project Designer/Engineer and fills out equipment schedules.
  • Provides drawings for own designs and produces sketches to incorporate in drawings by drafters.
  • Researches design options and documents findings for the Project Designer/Engineer.
  • Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services. 
  • Provides information to the Project Manager for incorporation into specifications.
  • Researches code issues and asks general questions of code officials.
  • Maintains a neat and organized work area which allows efficient access to information required by other team members.
  • Assures that drawings and designs are in accordance with company production and design standards.

 


Qualifications & Requirements

  • 5+ years of previous engineering/design experience in the building design industry (for example: lighting systems, fire alarm systems, branch circuitry, etc.).
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year College or University.
  • Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD/Revit).
  • General knowledge of Electrical system design and applicable codes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered professional engineer (PE).

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
  • Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.

Travel

  • This position will require 5-20% travel or as required by the assigned project.
  • You may be assigned to a client site for an extended period.
  • Overnight travel or staying in the city of the Client’s location is possible, depending on the assignment.

  • You will visit Client sites and must adhere to stated safety rules.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must have the ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis.

Safety

  • This position is a safety-sensitive position.
  • The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas.

All interviews are conducted either in person or virtually, with video required.

 

The salary offered for this role is between $96,000 and $147,000, but the actual salary offered is dependent on experience, skill set, and education.
