Highway Maintenance Class IV (Foreman)

The Town of Essex is actively looking for a Highway Maintenance Foreman Class IV.

This supervisory role will perform skilled manual work and equipment operation as well as providing supervision in directing work crews on public works projects and snow/ice removal. The Foreman provides day to day oversight and guidance to up to 8 full-time and several seasonal/temporary employees on specific jobs. The Foreman has frequent contact with other public works employees and the general public to respond to complaints and questions.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Eight (8) years experience in highway maintenance, construction procedures/methods, equipment operations and some leadership roles.
• Three (3) winter seasons experience performing winter plowing with a heavy-duty dump truck that has a plow or wing attached.
• Must have a thorough working knowledge of the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
• At *minimum, a valid commercial driver’s license class B. A class A CDL is preferred.

The pay range for this position is $32.00 to $40.00 per hour depending on experience.  Regular work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, hours may vary depending upon needs of the municipality.  Overtime will be required during the winter season.
