Position Summary:

The FWS Dorm Supervisor fosters a supportive, safe, and nurturing living environment, promoting positive relationships, ensuring student well-being, and maintaining dorm safety. This role involves supervising student activities, enforcing school policies, facilitating conflict resolution, and upholding health and safety standards while aligning with the values of the Maharishi School community.

It appeals to those studying education, psychology, conflict resolution, or related fields, as well as individuals who enjoy creating a harmonious and structured living environment.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Create a supportive, nurturing and safe environment:

  • Promote a positive and healthy community spirit within the dorm, helping students to develop respectful friendships / relationships.
  • Oversee the weekend: students responsibly checking in and out and engaging in positive and live supporting activities.
  • Maintain your scheduled presence in the dorm by being punctual. 
  • Ensure that meals are adequately supervised and that students eat a well-balanced diet.
  • Serve as a mediator/facilitator when necessary to provide resolutions for interpersonal conflicts between students.

2. Ensure health and safety standards are upheld:

  • Ensure the safety of the dorm at all times. Dorm Supervisors will follow established procedures in regards to safety and first-aid issues.
  • Administer over the counter medication following proper guidance and procedure when appropriate and keep careful records.

3. Enforce discipline, in cooperation with school authorities:

  • Be firm and fair with the rules.
  • Uphold and enforce the Maharishi School’s code of conduct, solving problems within the context of the residence but reporting serious issues to the Head of House.
  • Record all incidents and notify Head of House as appropriate.
  • Create an opportunity for students to take responsibility for keeping shared spaces clean and orderly (i.e. chores).

Job Qualifications:

  • Experience in residential work or other relevant experience with children/young people.
  • Experience working with adolescents in a professional context is preferred.
  • A strong awareness of Health & Safety.
  • Regular practice of Transcendental Meditation.
  • Strong and demonstrable organization skills.
  • Ability and disposition to solve issues and problems with/between students is required. 

  • Demonstrable alignment with the values and priorities of the community.
