Practice Setting:   

  • Inpatient and OR coverage
  • Trauma and Emergency General surgery
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Daily rounding
    • First assist in OR cases, including robotics
    • Consults
    • Trauma activations
    • Critical care management
  • Procedures required including I&Ds, laceration repairs, chest tube placement, and central line placement
  • 2 APPs staffed on day shift, 1 APP staffed on night shift
  • Work closely with Trauma/Acute Care surgeons
  • Average 3 cases per day, 1 case per night
  • Average census 20
  • Level II trauma center

Schedule: 

  • Part-time coverage
  • Average 10 shifts per month
  • Day and night coverage needed, 7:00-7:00

Patient Population: 95% adult, 5% pediatrics

EMR: EPIC

Credentialing: 90 days

Requirements:

  • Active Pennsylvania licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS and ATLS certifications
  • Minimum 2-years Trauma Surgery experience or equivalent

Job Responsibilities (Generalized):
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly

Skills:

  • Strong clinical knowledge and assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients
  • Proficiency in performing physical examinations and procedures relevant to their specialty
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and manage complex medical conditions
  • Time management skills to efficiently manage a patient workload
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a healthcare team


Requirements

Education:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics)
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in *
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP])
  • Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in *
  • National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Experience:

  • While specific requirements may vary, most locum APP positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty
