The Senior SATCOM Technician is a member of a multi-functional team providing Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN) Services via commercial and military satellite communications ground stations to deployed Department of Defense (DoD) customers including National Guard and other special DoD customers at the Regional Hub Node (RHN) at Fort Bragg, NC. The Senior SATCOM Technician’s technical, operational, and functional tasks spectrum includes performing Tier II operations and maintenance (O&M) tasks on all RHN systems and subsystems.


Responsibilities

  • Work under the functional/operational supervision of the Station Manager/Assistant Station Manager.

  • Operate and Maintain Digital Communications Satellite Subsystem.

  • Interpret Transmissions Plans and configure carriers on Master Reference Terminal (MRT).

  • Examine system configurations for proper configuration.

  • Configure, prepare, activate, and test satellite systems per service requests 24 hours prior to start of any mission.

  • Evaluate system performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency via the use of spectrum monitors and other testing equipment.

  • Plan and execute testing and troubleshooting of equipment.

  • Interface with Commercial and Military satellite controllers.

  • Perform operator level PMCS on all satellite equipment per technical manuals.

  • Comply with defined security policies and procedures.

  • Support Tier I technicians providing troubleshooting and issue resolution assistance.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction through the resolution of all issues and problems reported.

  • Types of Wave forms and Equipment used:

    • Multiple Frequency Time Division Multiple Access (CBM 400, MPM 1000s).

    • Frequency Division Multiple Access (DMD 2050E, CBM 400).

    • Linux Based systems.

    • Operation of TMDE (i.e., Spectrum Analyzer, Power Meter, Fireberd).


Qualifications

  • High School/GED plus a minimum six (6) years satellite communications configuration experience or Associate Degree or Trade School in Information Technology plus 4 years satellite communications configuration experience. 

  • Current Unexpired COMPTIA Security+CE certification required prior to date of hire.

  • Minimum active Secret Clearance.

  • US citizenship required by the contract.

  • Required Certifications post-hire:
    • Able to obtain GVF SATCOM Professional within 10 months of hire date.
    • Able to obtain Linux/Unix Fundamentals Udemy within 30 days of hire date.
    • CPR Certification within 6 months of hire date.

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Have Current GVF SATCOM Professional.

  • Expert understanding of Fixed Satellite Communication Ground Stations.

  • Regional/Unit Hub Node Operational Experience.

  • Strong understanding of Linux/Unix OS and Command line operations.

  • Strong understanding of working in a fully virtualized system.

  • High level of problem-solving skills and the ability to recommend and implement alternative setup and/or operations for complex systems.

  • Detail-oriented and possesses the ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Ability to provide incident and after-action reports and analysis.
