Lower School Substitute Teachers

Westtown School seeks experienced substitute teachers for our Lower School, grades pre-Kindergarten to 5th. Qualified candidates should have a solid understanding of the cognitive and social-emotional development of elementary school children. We seek experienced substitute teachers available for per diem and longer-term substitute assignments during the 2026-2027 school year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required;

• 1-3 years of relevant experience with elementary-aged children in a classroom or large group setting;

• Demonstrated passion and joy for working with Lower School students in grades pre-K through 5th;

• A commitment to social-emotional learning, and some knowledge of child development, differentiated instruction, and inquiry and project-based teaching;

• Strong student-centered and community-oriented classroom management skills centered on clear expectations, student support and growth, and a restorative solution approach; 

• Strong verbal and written interpersonal communication skills;

• A demonstrated commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices;

• A collaborative spirit and the ability to connect meaningfully with students, teachers, and staff throughout our diverse community;

• Strong affinity for the mission and strategic vision of Westtown School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school’s Quaker values.
