The ideal candidate will have recent hospital experience, strong knowledge of radiologic principles and anatomy, excellent patient-care skills, and the ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, shifts, and on-call assignments as required.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic radiographic examinations using appropriate positioning and imaging techniques to produce optimal images for physician interpretation.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of radiologic principles, anatomy, pathology, and imaging procedures.
- Follow department policies, protocols, and established procedures to ensure examinations are performed safely and accurately.
- Communicate effectively with patients to obtain relevant clinical history and required information from the patient or medical record.
- Explain procedures to patients and families, answer questions, reduce anxiety, and promote patient cooperation.
- Recognize clinical and emergent conditions that may affect an examination and take appropriate action.
- Correctly identify patients and verify patient records to maintain a high degree of accuracy and prevent identification errors.
- Track patients according to established departmental procedures.
- Identify and promptly correct errors within the Radiology Information System and related documentation.
- Maintain radiation exposure within As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) limits.
- Apply appropriate radiation protection practices, including proper collimation and use of protective shielding.
- Maintain patient safety through proper use of side rails, braking mechanisms, patient monitoring, and other safety procedures.
- Report, document, and address adverse, unsafe, or unusual conditions promptly.
- Monitor supplies and remove expired or near-expiration items from patient-care areas as appropriate.
- Operate radiographic and related imaging equipment according to manufacturer specifications and departmental standards.
- Stay current with technological developments, equipment updates, and advancements in radiologic practices through seminars, in-services, continuing education, and training.
- Participate in departmental and hospital performance improvement initiatives, meetings, and in-service programs.
- Recent hospital experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.
- Strong understanding of radiologic principles, anatomy, pathology, positioning, and imaging techniques.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a hospital environment.
- Strong patient-care and communication skills.
- Ability to work on-call, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts when required.
Required Credentials
- State of Delaware Radiologic Technologist License
- Delaware State Radiation License
- BLS – Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association
- Associate Degree in a related field
Schedule
- 10-hour day shifts
- Alternating weekends
- On-call coverage may be required
- Holiday and shift coverage may be required
