Position Summary

Under the direction of the laboratory department and revenue cycle department leadership, the Lab Billing Specialist works on resolution efforts for coding and billing problems that prevent submission of insurance claims as well as technical denials for claims not paid. Works closely with Coding and Billing departments in this effort. Performs assignment tasks within the quality and productivity standards assigned to position responsibilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1.    Monitors daily workload and analyzes progress of insurance claim submissions. 
2.    Resolves coding and billing problems to ensure timely reimbursement of the claim.
3.    Maintains knowledge of coding/billing requirements, documentation requirements and payer policies within the designated specialty.  
4.    Responds promptly and professionally, being courteous to all customers’ needs.
5.    Communicates effectively and often with leadership and staff.
6.    Contributes to continuous quality improvement efforts.
7.    Completes tasks accurately and timely. 
8.    Organizes time and prioritizes effectively.

Required:
•    High School Diploma or GED
•    One year of billing or patient registration experience 
•    Experience in a health care setting
•    Laboratory experience


Preferred:  
•    Billing and Coding Certificate
•    CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 experience
