Position Summary:
 Supervises the technical and nontechnical activities of the phlebotomy section ensuring operations are efficient and comply with all system and regulatory agency standards. Provides input into the development of department policies and procedures. Ensures personnel maintain current knowledge of techniques and procedures. Assists in meeting the business, financial, customer, service quality and regulatory requirements of the laboratory. Serves as a technical resource for section personnel.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1.    Oversees the day to day operations of the phlebotomy, specimen processing, clerical, outreach and client services, including routine and special blood, urine or fluid collections specimens and proper, prompt routing.
2.    Prepares work schedule and daily assignments ensuring adequate shift coverage.  
3.    Ensures procedures and protocols operate efficiently and effectively, in accordance with all system and regulatory agency standards. Does so by monitoring department turnaround times; investigating and implementing corrective action; monitoring inventory and ordering supplies.
4.    Serves as technical resource to subordinates in resolving problems and in investigating and recommending corrective actions in response to incident reports and/or patient complaints.
5.    Ensures the attainment of objectives through developing, training and evaluating lab staff; participates in hiring process.
6.    Maintains personnel records of Laboratory Department.
7.    Prepares payroll and assists with labor budget for lab department and timekeeper responsibilities.
8.    Maintains flow of work requests, files, and reports to patient charts.
9.    Prepares annual reports, statistics, and all other special requests.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years related work experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree of Science or related field.
  • Billing experience
  • Certified Phlebotomist
  • Supervisory experience
