Job Description:

St. Elizabeth Physicians Gastroenterology is seeking a compassionate, team-oriented Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing Gastroenterology team. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced group of 14 Gastroenterology physicians providing high-quality inpatient GI care across Northern Kentucky.


This is an excellent opportunity for an APP who enjoys collaborative practice, managing complex patient populations, and delivering exceptional patient-centered care.


Position Highlights

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Practice Locations: Florence, Ft. Thomas, and Edgewood, with APPs rotating locations on a weekly basis
  • Weekend Coverage: 1:5 rotation, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday before and Monday after assigned weekend are off
  • No night call
  • Primarily an inpatient-based role
  • Opportunity for future outpatient clinic rotations as the program continues to grow
  • Collaborate closely with a team of 14 Gastroenterologists within the hospital setting
  • Preference for candidates with at least one year of APP experience, ideally in Gastroenterology
  • Internal and external candidates encouraged to apply, with emphasis on experience, teamwork, and cultural fit

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtain and review patient histories, medical records, and EMR documentation.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, including presenting illness, risk factors, family history, psychosocial factors, and cultural considerations.
  • Conduct appropriate physical examinations.
  • Order, perform, and interpret laboratory, diagnostic, and screening tests.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to establish diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapies in accordance with state regulations and organizational guidelines.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, and preventative care strategies.
  • Document patient encounters, findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans accurately within the electronic medical record.
  • Provide continuity of care through patient follow-up, care coordination, and triage of patient calls and messages.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer reviews, clinical guideline development, and continuing education activities.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and patient confidentiality standards.
  • Work collaboratively with Gastroenterology physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Clinical Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Understanding of diagnostic testing, interpretation of results, and clinical decision-making processes.
  • Knowledge of health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education principles.
  • Familiarity with medical equipment and clinical procedures used in patient care.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and infection prevention practices.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Master's degree or higher as required by certification and licensure standards.

Licensure and Certification

  • Current Kentucky license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA), or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • Current national certification applicable to discipline.
  • DEA registration and prescriptive authority as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of APP experience, preferably in Gastroenterology.
  • Prior inpatient experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative physician-APP practice model.
