Relief host / barman – luxury African safari lodge

Kendrick Recruitment is currently seeking a confident, energetic and guest-focused Relief Host / Barman to join a luxury African safari lodge situated in the Greater Kruger, Mpumalanga.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hospitality professional who enjoys creating memorable guest experiences and is comfortable working across both hosting and bar service within a luxury safari environment.

The position

• Role: Relief Host / Barman
  
• Location: Greater Kruger, Mpumalanga
  
• Property: Luxury African Safari Lodge
  
• Salary: R8,000 – R9,000 per month, negotiable depending on experience
  
• The successful candidate will assist with the smooth day-to-day operation of the lodge while providing exceptional service to guests.
  
• The role will involve welcoming and hosting guests, ensuring they feel comfortable and well cared for throughout their stay.
  
• The successful candidate will assist with meal and beverage service, maintaining the high standards expected within a luxury lodge.
  
• The position will include responsibility for bar service, including preparing and serving a variety of beverages and cocktails.
  
• The successful candidate will ensure that the bar area remains clean, organised and fully stocked.
  
• The role will require excellent knowledge of beverages and the ability to make informed recommendations to guests.
  
• The Relief Host / Barman will assist with guest activities, dining experiences and general lodge duties as required.
  
• The successful candidate will build strong relationships with guests and provide warm, personalized service.
  
• The role will require flexibility to assist across different areas of the lodge when needed.
  
• The successful candidate will work closely with the wider lodge team to ensure a seamless guest experience.
  
• The position requires someone who is comfortable working in a remote safari environment and who can adapt quickly to changing operational requirements.
  

Candidate requirements

• Previous experience in a luxury lodge, hotel, safari camp or high-end hospitality environment.
  
• Experience in both guest hosting and bartending would be highly advantageous.
  
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  
• A warm, friendly and naturally engaging personality.
  
• Strong knowledge of beverages, cocktails and bar service.
  
• Excellent guest relations skills and a genuine passion for hospitality.
  
• Professional presentation and a positive, can-do attitude.
  
• Ability to work well under pressure and remain calm during busy periods.
  
• Strong attention to detail and consistently high service standards.
  
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  
• Flexibility to assist with various lodge duties when required.
  
• Previous experience in a remote safari environment would be advantageous.
  
• A genuine passion for luxury hospitality, wildlife and the African bush would be highly beneficial.
