Robotic Welding Operator

Operates and programs welding robot workstations to deliver consistent, high-quality automated welds on energy storage cabinet structures.

Minth North America, Inc., Gadsden, AL

Salary Range: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour

Minth is looking for a Robotic Welding Operator to join the Sheet Metal Welding Workshop of the Production Department. In this position, you will operate welding robot workstations to complete automated welding of energy storage cabinet structural parts, including teaching programming, welding parameter settings, process monitoring, weld quality inspection and routine equipment maintenance.

This position is the core of the automation level of the welding production line and directly affects production efficiency, weld quality consistency and production capacity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate welding robot workstations (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA) to complete automated welding of energy storage cabinet structural parts.
  • Call up the correct welding program for each product model and confirm the program version and welding parameters.
  • Monitor arc stability, weld formation and spatter, and stop and adjust immediately when abnormalities are found.
  • Control weld quality to ensure uniform appearance, moderate reinforcement, and no porosity, undercut or lack of fusion.
  • Monitor multiple robot workstations at once and coordinate the clamping, welding and unloading cycle with assembly operators to optimize production rhythm.
  • Perform teaching programming for new products and model changes by guiding the torch along the weld seam to record path points.
  • Set and optimize welding parameters (current, voltage, travel speed, wire feed speed, shielding gas flow, weaving) and adjust welding sequence, direction and arc start/end positions to reduce deformation and spatter.
  • Back up debugged programs to the server or USB drive, maintain program version records, and begin batch production only after first-piece confirmation.
  • Perform daily inspection of the robot body, control cabinet, teach pendant, torch, wire feeder, cooling system and gas circuit, and replace consumables (contact tips, nozzles, wire feed rollers, torch cleaning blades, anti-spatter nozzles).
  • Troubleshoot common alarms (wire feed issues, insufficient shielding gas flow, torch collision, program errors) and regularly calibrate the TCP and workpiece coordinate system to maintain trajectory accuracy.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance (lubrication, cleaning, tightening) per the maintenance schedule.
  • Perform full-size and weld appearance first-piece inspection at each batch or model change with first-piece tag sign-off, and randomly inspect weld dimensions and visual defects during production.
  • Support quality inspectors with nondestructive testing of welds (VT/MT/PT/UT), evaluate nonconforming welds for repair or scrap, and complete welding process records (parameters, quantities, defects, causes).
  • Follow robot safety procedures (including emergency stop/enable switch before entering the robot work area), wear required welding PPE, confirm fume collection is operating, clear combustibles and complete hot work approval, and maintain 5S.

REQUIREMENTS

  • More than 1 year of experience in welding robot operation, with the ability to independently complete teaching programming and parameter adjustment.
  • Skilled in operating at least one mainstream welding robot brand (FANUC, ABB, KUKA or Yaskawa).
  • Mastery of robot teaching programming methods (online teaching and offline programming).
  • Ability to read welding drawings and welding symbols (AWS D1.1 / GB/T 985 standards).
  • Understanding of how welding parameters (current, voltage, speed, gas) affect weld quality.
  • Ability to identify and eliminate common welding defects (porosity, cracks, lack of fusion, undercut, etc.).
  • Basic equipment troubleshooting skills (mechanical, electrical, air circuit).
  • Welding robot operator certificate.
  • Legally authorized to work in the country of the work location.

MINIMUM EDUCATION / FIELD OF STUDY

  • Technical/vocational school diploma or above; majors in mechatronics, welding technology, industrial robotics or related fields preferred.

KEY TO BEING SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE

  • A strong process mindset and eye for weld quality consistency.
  • Initiative in troubleshooting and optimizing robot programs.
  • Strict adherence to robot and hot work safety procedures.
  • Good teamwork with assembly operators, quality inspectors and process engineers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed on the manufacturing floor in a welding environment, requiring standing and walking.
  • Required PPE includes welding helmet, welding gloves, protective clothing, safety shoes and goggles.
  • Exposure to welding fume, heat and noise; fume collection systems must be operating and ventilation maintained.
  • Frequent use of the robot teach pendant and programming software, and ability to read drawings and process data.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
