Schedule

Full Time, Nights (80 Hours/Biweekly)

Shift: 4-10 hour shifts or 5-8 hour shifts

Rotation: Every other weekend, holidays

General Summary

Performs a variety of technical and general duties at a basic skills and knowledge level. Functions in one or more laboratory divisions.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Performs routine and/or specialized testing and procedures with supervision as appropriate.
  • Performs a variety of duties at progressively greater skill levels under varying degrees of supervision, records results. May operate a variety of laboratory instruments.
  • Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records.
  • Inoculates, cultivates, classifies, and identifies microorganisms found in bodily fluids, exudates, skin scrapings, autopsy and surgical specimens in order to provide data on cause, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases.
  • May group or type blood of donors and recipients. May determine compatibility of donor blood products with intended recipient.
  • May perform chemical and/or immunological tests to identify and/or quantitate substances found in blood and other body fluids.
  • Counts, describes morphology of, and performs specialized studies on blood and other body fluid cells. Performs coagulation testing.
  • Prepares and maintains reagents, and other solutions and stains according to standard formulas.
  • Trains other employees in day-to-day procedures.
  • May consult with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services.
  • Performs surveys and does comparative analyses of work units; may participate in research activities and investigates new products, equipment, techniques, methodologies, and introduces, demonstrates, effects, and recommends as is appropriate.
  • Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.
  • Identifies safety concerns, instrument issues and other opportunities for process improvement, collaborating with others in problem solving

  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Required and
  • College Diploma As part of CAP requirements, a college diploma is required provided the field of study is indicated on the diploma within 6 months of hire. Required or
  • College Transcript Within 6 months of hire. Required

Work Experience:

  • Completion of student clinical rotations. Required and
  • Medical technology or a related science. Required

Licenses:

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Medical Technologist - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Specialist in Blood Banking - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Specialist in Chemistry - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Specialist in Cytometry - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Specialist in Hematology - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Specialist in Microbiology - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Specialist in Molecular Biology - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Technologist in Blood Banking - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Technologist in Chemistry - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Technologist in Cytogenetics - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Technologist in Hematology - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Technologist in Microbiology - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Technologist in Molecular Biology - ASCP within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - AMT within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - AMT within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Molecular Diagnostics Technologist - AMT within 1 year Required or
  • Medical Technologist - ABOR within 1 year Required
