Essential Functions

  • Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate office equipment, machines, and materials. Whole-body movement such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, carrying objects and operating fitness equipment may be required.
  • Ability to provide effective assistance in a professional manner to College stakeholders in a variety of facility environments requiring critical thinking, organization, and the use of inter-personal and communication skills.

Level of Supervision or Independent Judgement

  • Perform duties under direct supervision following procedures, instructions, directions, and training given.
  • Minimal independent decision making.

Duties and Responsibilities

Fitness Center Aides are expected to perform any or all duties listed below in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.

  • Support the daily operations of the College Fitness Center(s) promoting a safe, clean and welcoming environment for all students/patrons.
  • Perform routine open and close processes for facility use as instructed.
  • Greet and assist patrons with check-in procedures and general inquiries.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment and facility surfaces regularly.
  • Inspect fitness equipment for damage or maintenance needs and report all issues promptly.
  • Enforce College and fitness center policies and procedures in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Promote healthy habits and provide basic guidance regarding equipment and facility use.
  • Work cooperatively with other fitness center staff and College personnel to provide effective opportunities for students and stakeholders to enjoy participation in fitness classes and use of equipment and facilities.
  • Perform similar duties not specifically listed as directed.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work productively with and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours/days including early morning to early night hours and weekend day(s) as necessary.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to promote the benefits of a wide variety of fitness opportunities provided by the College.
  • Ability to pass a background screening process and/or obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is necessary.

Preferred Skills

  • Pervious experience in a similar environment.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of safe work practices particularly when performing general physical activities and handling chemicals or other hazardous materials.

Work Environment

Duties are performed in or closely around buildings or other enclosed, generally climate-controlled structures. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and moderate to high noise levels is anticipated. Operation of fitness equipment involves the ability to manipulate objects from light to substantial weight.
