Summary

  • This is a 7-month contract position with a local authority, offering a rate of £269.65 per day under an umbrella arrangement. The role is designed to provide specialist public health leadership and expertise aimed at improving population health outcomes and reducing health inequalities across Thurrock. The successful candidate will lead and support the delivery of healthcare public health programmes, collaborating with NHS partners, local authority services, Integrated Care Board (ICB) colleagues, and community stakeholders to develop evidence-based, prevention-focused approaches that enhance health and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver healthcare public health projects and programmes to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities.
  • Collaborate with NHS Primary Care, Integrated Care Board (ICB) partners, Integrated Neighbourhood Teams, and wider stakeholders to develop prevention-focused initiatives.
  • Provide specialist public health advice and expertise to support commissioning, service development, quality improvement, and policy implementation.
  • Lead on the commissioning, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of public health programmes, including NHS Health Checks.
  • Undertake Health Needs Assessments (HNAs), Health Equity Audits (HEAs), and contribute to Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNAs).
  • Analyse and interpret complex qualitative and quantitative public health data to identify priorities and recommend evidence-based interventions.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience working in a public health role within a complex public sector environment.
  • Experience in developing and delivering public health programmes and projects.
  • Experience undertaking Health Needs Assessments and contributing to Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNAs).
  • Degree in Public Health or a related subject, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Evidence of significant professional experience within a public health role.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to public health practice.
