JP’s Pastry is a dedicated gluten-free bakery offering baked goods, breads, desserts, and prepared meals. Our retail team helps customers find food they love while maintaining a welcoming, clean, and well-stocked store.
Position summary
The Retail Associate creates a positive shopping experience through friendly service, accurate transactions, and consistent attention to the store. This is an active role that includes helping customers, putting product out, receiving deliveries, rotating inventory, cleaning, and completing daily assignments.
Responsibilities
- Welcome customers promptly and help them find products that meet their preferences.
- Learn the product selection and share approved information about ingredients, storage, thawing, and reheating.
- Use product labels and approved references for dietary questions; ask the Store Lead or management when unsure and never guess about allergens.
- Process purchases accurately through Square POS, handle payments carefully, and follow cash-handling procedures.
- Explain current promotions and the loyalty program, and recommend relevant products without pressuring customers.
- Restock shelves, displays, refrigerators, and freezers throughout the shift; bring products out promptly when inventory is available.
- Help receive deliveries, check products for damage, and place items in their assigned storage locations promptly.
- Follow product dating, labeling, rotation, and storage procedures; report low stock, expired products, damage, and waste.
- Help complete inventory counts and prepare authorized customer pickup orders as assigned.
- Keep checkout areas, displays, floors, storage areas, and restrooms clean and orderly; complete assigned cleaning and sanitation tasks.
- Follow food safety and temperature-check procedures as trained, and report equipment concerns promptly.
- Complete assigned opening and closing tasks and follow store security procedures.
- Stay engaged in assigned work, use slower periods to stock and clean, and ask for the next priority when tasks are complete.
- Communicate respectfully with customers, coworkers, delivery personnel, and management; bring concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Arrive on time, follow the assigned schedule, and communicate attendance or availability issues promptly.
- Perform other related retail duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Friendly, dependable, and comfortable speaking with customers.
- Ability to follow instructions, complete tasks, and pay attention to details.
- Basic math skills and willingness to learn Square POS and cash-handling procedures.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn products, ingredient information, and safe food-handling procedures.
- Availability for the assigned schedule, including weekends and holiday periods as needed.
- Retail or food-service experience is helpful; training is provided.
Working conditions
The role involves extended standing and walking; bending, reaching, stocking, cleaning, and moving product cases; and working around refrigerated and frozen products. Essential duties may be performed with reasonable accommodation. Confirm any specific lifting requirement against actual store duties before posting.
