Position Title: Engineering Cost Analyst

Description: 

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting an Engineering Cost Analyst. The Engineering Cost Analyst plays a critical role in the successful delivery of Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) construction projects. This position is responsible for developing consistent, accurate cost estimates and contract time calculations, supporting project planning through final design. The incumbent provides expert guidance and training to MDT staff, consultants, and stakeholders, and manages key software tools used in cost estimation and risk management.

Minimum Qualifications: 

The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through one of the following:

• A Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in highway engineering;
  OR
• A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience in highway engineering.

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Licensure

• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
• At a minimum, candidates must possess Engineer Intern (EI) certification.

·       Civil engineering theory, principles, methods, and techniques

·       Highway construction methods, techniques, and field applications

·       Construction materials, specifications, and plan requirements

·       Roadway design and highway construction practices

·       Transportation systems and economics

·       Statistical analysis and interpretation

·       Reading and interpreting complex plans, specifications, and contract documents

·       Developing and administering diverse projects and functions

·       Short- and long-term project planning and performance monitoring

·       Negotiation, mediation, and consensus-building

·       Developing comprehensive solutions to complex engineering problems

·       Leading and coordinating multiple engineering activities
