Building Surveyor – 7 Month Contract

Rate: £34.91 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 7 Month Contract
Hours: Full Time
Working Pattern: Hybrid Working – 2 to 3 Days On Site in Hereford Per Week
Pay: Bi-weekly

Summary


Herefordshire Council is in search of a seasoned Building Surveyor to enhance its Property Services team. This role offers a remarkable chance for a skilled professional to engage with a wide-ranging property portfolio, ensuring building compliance, safety, maintenance, and the execution of capital projects. The appointed individual will collaborate closely with Property Services, the PMO Team, and partner entities to maintain the safety, compliance, and functionality of council-owned properties. The portfolio encompasses a variety of structures, including Grade I and II Listed Buildings, Scheduled Ancient Monuments, Commercial Buildings, and Industrial Sites.

Key Responsibilities


  • Deliver expert Building Surveying services across the Council's property holdings.
  • Facilitate building compliance, safety, maintenance, and asset management tasks.
  • Oversee and execute capital improvement and refurbishment initiatives.
  • Serve as Contract Administrator for various construction and maintenance projects.
  • Conduct building inspections, condition surveys, and defect analysis.
  • Develop specifications, work schedules, reports, and tender documents.
  • Evaluate contractor performance and ensure project delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external consultants.
  • Support conservation and heritage projects involving historic buildings.
  • Contribute to health and safety compliance and risk management efforts.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • RICS Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) qualification.
  • Extensive experience in a Building Surveying or Property Services setting.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Building Regulations
    • Planning Policy
    • Conservation
    • Property Compliance
    • Health & Safety Legislation
  • Proven experience as a Contract Administrator.
  • Experience as a Principal Designer (CDM).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise effectively.
  • Exceptional report writing and communication skills.
  • Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable


  • Experience with:
    • Grade I and II Listed Buildings
    • Scheduled Ancient Monuments
    • Commercial and Industrial Properties
  • Experience as:
    • Nominated Person for Asbestos Management
    • Nominated Person for Fire Management
  • Previous experience in a Local Authority or Public Sector environment.
