Experienced Tax Preparer – Part-Time / Flexible Seasonal

Locations: Hobart | Merrillville | Portage | Gary, Indiana

Are you an experienced tax preparer looking for flexible seasonal work without committing to a full-time tax-season schedule?

We are an independently owned and operated Jackson Hewitt franchise with four locations in Northwest Indiana, and we're looking for experienced tax preparers to join our team for the upcoming tax season.

Whether you're looking for a few shifts each week, evening or weekend hours, or a more consistent part-time schedule, we'd like to talk with you.

With offices in Hobart, Merrillville, Portage, and Gary, we can work with qualified candidates to find a location and schedule that works for both you and our clients.

What You'll Do

Prepare accurate federal and state individual income tax returns
Conduct one-on-one client tax interviews
Review client documentation for completeness and accuracy
Identify applicable deductions, credits, and other tax considerations
Explain tax returns and results to clients in clear, understandable terms
Provide professional and friendly client service
Complete returns accurately and efficiently during a fast-paced tax season
Follow IRS due-diligence, documentation, and company procedures
Recognize complex tax situations and seek additional review when appropriate

What We're Looking For

Required:

2+ seasons of professional tax preparation experience
Experience preparing individual Form 1040 federal and state income tax returns
Strong client interviewing and customer-service skills
Good computer skills and experience using professional tax preparation software
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid PTIN
Willingness to stay current with changes in federal and state tax law

Additional Experience Is a Plus

Experience in any of the following areas is especially valuable:

Schedule C / self-employment
Schedule E / rental properties
Investments and capital gains
Retirement income
Multi-state returns
Amended returns
IRS and state tax notices
EA, AFSP, CPA or other professional tax credentials
