CWI Works has an open position in the National Park Service’s (NPS) Experienced Services Program (ESP). The NPS-ESP Program provides skilled and experienced individuals 55 years of age or older with temporary paid assignments that help the National Park Service (NPS) meet its mission, goals, and objectives in areas where additional expertise, technical skills, or capacity are needed.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is recruiting a Laborer. The primary function of this position is to perform laboring duties that require moderately heavy physical effort and the use of common hand tools and power equipment to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, and related facilities. The position also performs janitorial duties for buildings and grounds as required.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Operates power equipment such as lawn mowers, chain saws, brush cutters, brush chippers, and various hand and light power tools, including shovels, pulaskis, picks, digging bars, rakes, lawn-edging equipment, and electric drills.
  • Maintains buildings, grounds, roads, trails, and related facilities.
  • Loads and unloads supplies and materials.
  • Moves furniture and equipment.
  • Removes, installs, and maintains signs.
  • Paints picnic tables and signs.
  • Rakes and waters lawns.
  • Trims trees and shrubbery.
  • Picks up litter and debris.
  • Cleans and repairs fire pits.
  • Performs janitorial duties for buildings and grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate must have:

  • Age 55 or older. 
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States.
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience operating power equipment, power tools, and hand tools. 
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. 
  • The physical capability to operate equipment and tools for 8–10 hours per day, with breaks as prescribed by the park's Standard Operating Procedures (e.g., additional breaks during periods of extreme heat).

HOURS & COMPENSATION

Temporary position working an average of 29 hours per week at $21.14 per hour.
