Job Objective:
Responsible for partnering with Upstream (Operations) business units and the Information Technology (IT) Department to understand technology needs and challenges, and to design, build, and deliver custom applications and data solutions that modernize operations and advance the overall business strategy. This role combines hands-on application development with strategic systems analysis—using AI-assisted development tools, SQL, and modern cloud-based platforms to deliver practical, high-impact solutions. The incumbent leads projects across their full lifecycle and serves as a trusted technology partner to operational stakeholders.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted technology partner to Upstream (Operations) business units, learning their workflows and priorities firsthand, and representing those needs within the IT Department.
  • Envision, design, and deliver custom IT solutions to the Upstream business that deliver measurable value in terms of automation, efficiency, data accuracy, or improved controls.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, Replit) to accelerate development cycles, prototype solutions, and explore innovative approaches to complex business problems.
  • Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries, data models, stored procedures, and database integrations to support application functionality, reporting, and data analysis needs.
  • Use current technology and cloud-based platforms (such as AWS) to help modernize the Upstream application portfolio, improving reliability, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversee all phases of projects from conception through completion—including scope, schedule, and budget—keeping end users engaged through timely and relevant communication.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously using standard project management tools and practices, maintaining clear prioritization and stakeholder alignment throughout.
  • Manage the activities of third-party software vendors and development partners in the delivery of IT solutions; evaluate vendor proposals, coordinate deliverables, and ensure contractual commitments are met.
  • Translate business requirements and project documents into technical specifications for development by internal or external resources; review and validate delivered solutions against acceptance criteria.
  • Own solutions across their full lifecycle—from requirements gathering and build through deployment, user training, ongoing iteration, and continuous improvement based on operational feedback.
  • Produce clear technical and functional documentation; communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs to both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders.
  • Continuously evaluate deployed solutions for performance, usability, and alignment with evolving business needs, recommending and implementing improvements as appropriate.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, AI tooling, development methodologies, and industry trends relevant to enterprise application development and operations technology.
  • Adheres to the company's values—integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment, and innovation.
  • Supports company vision and mission.
  • Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards, and is punctual to work and meetings.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects company assets, including intellectual property, by keeping information confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results, as needed.

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Builds customer confidence; is committed to increasing customer satisfaction; sets achievable customer expectations; assumes responsibility for solving customer problems and removing blockers.
  • Ensures commitments to Upstream (Operations) are met; solicits opinions and ideas from operational stakeholders; responds to inquiries and advocates for business needs within IT.
  • Promotes knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving across IT and business teams; provides guidance to colleagues and helps strengthen the organization's capability to deliver modern solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years minimum experience in Information Technology (and/or related fields), including systems analysis, application delivery, business analysis, or project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and ship functional software applications or technology solutions—whether through formal employment, independent projects, or AI-assisted development workflows.
  • Strong SQL skills, including complex query development, relational data modeling, data validation, troubleshooting, and interpretation of results for business reporting.

  • Experience managing or coordinating the work of third-party software vendors or development partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to navigate ambiguous or incomplete requirements and translate them into working solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical teams and non-technical operational audiences.
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and strong personal accountability for outcomes.
