Job Description

The Curriculum Designer 1 for Math K-5 PD is responsible for developing Houston ISD NES curriculum with a focus on mathematics for grades K-5. This role involves creating teacher-facing curriculum materials, including slide decks, guidance for implementation, and differentiated assignments aligned with daily learning objectives. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to provide clear direction and constructive feedback to meet curriculum goals. Collaboration with educators and stakeholders is essential to ensure effective curriculum delivery and student engagement. This role supports the academic mission by enhancing instructional resources and promoting student learning outcomes.

Curriculum Designer 1, K-5 Math - Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and design K-5 math curriculum aligned with Houston ISD NES standards.
  2. Create teacher-facing materials including slide decks and implementation guides.
  3. Design differentiated student activities and assignments to meet diverse learning needs.
  4. Align curriculum content with daily learning objectives and assessment standards.
  5. Provide clear direction and feedback to ensure curriculum quality and effectiveness.
  6. Collaborate with educators and academic teams to refine curriculum resources.
  7. Organize curriculum materials for easy access and use by teaching staff.
  8. Monitor curriculum implementation and suggest improvements based on feedback.
  9. Support professional development related to curriculum use and instructional strategies.
  10. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in math education and curriculum design.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in related field required

WORK EXPERIENCE

3 to 5 years of relevant experience required

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Software Certifications/Licensure Equipment Other Items Strong knowledge of K-5 mathematics curriculum and instructional strategies. Experience in curriculum design and development for primary education. Ability to create clear, engaging, and teacher-friendly instructional materials. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Strong communication skills for providing feedback and guidance. Ability to collaborate effectively with educators and academic teams. Familiarity with differentiated instruction and student assessment methods. Proficiency in creating digital slide decks and educational resources. Detail-oriented with a focus on aligning curriculum to learning objectives. Commitment to supporting student learning and academic achievement.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

-No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

-Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

-No budget development activity is required.

PROBLEM SOLVING

-Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

-Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

-Collaborate and solve problems - works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

-Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

-Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to hazardous or unpleasant elements. The position requires the ability to lift and/or carry less than 15 pounds and travel to campuses, satellite office locations, and other district sites as needed.
