Responsibilities

  1. Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  2. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  3. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual differences.
  4. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  5. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  6. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals,
  7. establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to the students.
  8. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  9. Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  10. Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  11. Refer students for evaluation by district specialists as required.
  12. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  13. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative
  14. regulations.
  15. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  16. Make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required.
  17. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with
  18. department heads, evaluating their job performance.
  19. Maintain and improve professional competence.
  20. Participate in district staff development.
  21. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees
  22. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.
  23. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
  24. Maintain open communication with parents.

Job Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Prior teaching experience in a similar role preferred *Applicants who do not meet these work experience qualifications may be considered if they have a unique combination of education and work experience that may meet requirements for a school district permit.

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Microsoft Office Texas state teacher certification aligned with teaching assignment

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

No budget development activity is required.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Decisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually within the confines of the job's own department. Specific job activities and results are typically reviewed closely. There are limited requirements for developing new ideas or changes in methods, procedures, or services.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Follow rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborate and solve problems - work with others to resolve problems, clarify, or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. ▪ Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district. ▪ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district. ▪ Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate the keyboard. ▪ Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, bend, climb, and/or be mobile. ▪ Ability to travel throughout the district and city by means of private or public transportation. If driving personal (or private) vehicle, must possess a valid driver’s license and appropriate insurance coverage.
