We are hiring a Full-Time Program Manager to join UTHealth McGovern Medical School, Department of OBGYN – Maternal Fetal Medicine in Houston, TX 77030. In this role, you will develop, plan, and maintain research & policy analysis. Position involves overseeing the general running of the laboratory and managing the research agenda for the area.

Position Summary:

Develops, plans and manages all activities of a school/unit program(s) or project(s). Functions in a Leadership capacity in the program.

The Goetzl lab focuses on translational research in perinatal brain injury. Specifically, we explore mechanisms of fetal brain alterations related to three major areas of exposure: 1) Hypoxia/Ischemia 2) Viral infections such as Zika and Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and 3) Exposure to psychoactive drugs and medications commonly taken by women of childbearing age, especially selective serotonin uptake inhibitors (SSRIs), marijuana (THC), opiates, and amphetamines.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversees all aspects of the program activities including supply chain, budget management, grant applications and management, research administrative duties and others. Able to work independently and as part of the team.
  • Develops, implements, and manages policies and procedures.
  • Manages annual budget, negotiate service contracts, report on progress and/or authorize expenditures.
  • Informs upper management of key activities and makes periodic progress reports.
  • Works closely with internal departments regarding strategy and collaborative opportunities.
  • May assist in the preparation of progress reports and grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies.
  • Working in conjunction with Public Affairs, may create and edit various communications materials for the program, which may include printed materials, web site content and/or department newsletters.
  • Assists with the preparation of abstracts, posters and presentations at professional meetings.
  • Assists with recruiting and selection, hiring and terminating, training and development, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Manages research administration duties including human research, animal research and biosafety paperwork
  • Orders research supplies to conduct experiments.
  • Manages calendar of research PI. Manage calendars and coordinate didactic sessions, conferences, and educational activities for trainees; support trainees' academic and professional development.
  • Oversee the evaluation process of trainees, including performance assessments, 

    feedback mechanisms, and evaluations from faculty; maintain accurate records of trainees' progress, milestones, and completion requirements.

     

  • Other duties as assigned.


Certification/Skills:

  • Excellent communication (including written and verbal), interpersonal, and
    problem-solving (including diplomatically handling problems of a sensitive
    and/or confidential nature) skills.
  • Detail-oriented with superior organizational skills. Proficient at Microsoft
    Excel.
  • Experience in graduate medical education and/or academic medicine, highly preferred. 
  • Experience in medical research, biological sciences, health, public health, or directly related area, preferred. 

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

  • Five (5) years of applicable experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position.
