POSITION OVERVIEW

The Saw Operator is responsible for overseeing the critical first step in the manufacturing process to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production. This role operates heavy-duty industrial saws to accurately cut massive raw material billets and ingots (up to 46" in diameter) to specific starting weights and lengths. The Saw Operator will work closely with plant leadership to drive operational excellence, improve productivity, and maintain high standards of safety and quality.


RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plant Operations & Machine Control

  • Operate heavy-duty industrial band saws or circular saws to safely cut raw material up to 46" in diameter.
  • Monitor operational performance and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Select and install the correct saw blades, feed rates, blade speeds, and coolant flow based on the specific alloy.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

2. Material Handling & Traceability

  • Operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment to load and unload heavy billets onto the saw bed.
  • Accurately stamp, tag, or label all cut pieces with correct heat numbers, lot numbers, and work order details.
  • Measure cut pieces to verify exact length and calculate starting weight.

3. Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Ensure plant compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a positive and accountable work environment.

4. Continuous Improvement & Maintenance

  • Ensure 5s implementation and maintaining them.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance, clear metal chips, and monitor coolant levels.
  • Coordinate with maintenance team to ensure equipment reliability and preventive maintenance execution.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing or plant operations role required.
  • Experience in metal working, forging, industrial manufacturing, or similar environment preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Solid understanding of production processes, maintenance, and safety practices.
  • Strong knowledge of 5s and lean manufacturing.
  • Ability to accurately read precision measurement tools and calculate material weights.
