Summary:

The Upper School science long-term substitute teacher is a committed educator who will challenge students to perform at their best. This individual will engage students in Biology and Forensic Science courses, offering dynamic learning experiences in collaboration with other science department faculty. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Duchesne’s excellent science education program. 
  • Implement lesson plans and assessment tools.
  • Work collaboratively with science faculty to design and implement Biology and Forensic Science curricula.
  • Maintain accurate student records (e.g., attendance, grades, etc.).
  • Learn and leverage technology in instruction.
  • Supervise students in a variety of school-related settings and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements

  

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Science or related subject matter; master’s degree preferred.
  • Three years of experience teaching upper school students, preferably in independent schools. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in the areas of Life Science and Forensic Science. 
  • Proven knowledge of current pedagogical theory and practice, and eagerness to continue learning. 
  • High level of competence using technology.
  • Strong references to convey teaching abilities.

  • Treat parents as partners in their child's education. 
  • Ability to be empathetic to the needs of students and families.

Upon Hiring

  • Successful completion of criminal offender record information and sexual offender registry information checks.
  • Successful completion of CMG Safe Environment Training.
  • Current CPR certification.

  • Appropriately carry out specific duties as determined by the Head of School and/or supervisor. 
  • Maintain professional credentials and complete required training. Participate in and provide documentation for at least one professional development opportunity per year in addition to those required and provided by the school.  
  • Respect the confidentiality of the school, its employees, students, and families. 
  • Comply with the policies and procedures as articulated in the faculty and staff handbook. 
  • Authentically engage in the school’s self-reflection process that requires written goals and measured progress towards them.
