Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher provides instructional continuity in the absence of the regular classroom teacher by maintaining a productive, safe, and faith-filled learning environment at Holy Cross Academy. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for implementing lesson plans, supervising students, managing classroom behavior, and supporting the academic and spiritual development of students while upholding the mission and values of Catholic education.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Deliver classroom instruction and facilitate learning activities in a manner that supports student engagement and achievement.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and productive classroom environment.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, including during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and established classroom expectations.
  • Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
  • Adapt instruction as needed to meet student needs while remaining consistent with provided lesson plans.
  • Communicate relevant information regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom activities to the regular teacher and administration.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.
  • Follow all school procedures, emergency protocols, and diocesan policies.
  • Support and uphold the mission, philosophy, and values of Holy Cross Academy and the Catholic Church.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; bachelor's degree or current enrollment in an education-related program preferred.
  • Previous teaching, tutoring, childcare, or youth supervision experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage a classroom and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to interact positively and respectfully with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with classroom technology preferred.
  • Ability to perform duties that may require standing, walking, bending, and lifting instructional materials.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Successful completion of required background checks, Safe Environment training, and any other diocesan requirements.
