- Position: Mentor
- Purpose: Provide consistent, supportive guidance to youth involved with DCS, helping them develop life skills, confidence, and positive relationships.
- Mentoring referrals: All mentoring referrals will be submitted as a General Service referral accompanied by a request for exception (RFE). Reports must reflect group participation while protecting confidentiality. Billing is approved only when the client is present.
- Key responsibilities: Build a trusting relationship with the youth; provide one-on-one mentoring; encourage educational and career goals; teach communication, decision-making, and independent-living skills; advocate for the youth’s needs; coordinate with DCS caseworkers, caregivers, schools, and service providers; document contacts and progress; maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Qualifications: Experience working with children or adolescents; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with youth from diverse backgrounds; reliability and sound judgment; required background checks and DCS-specific training.
- Preferred experience: Social services, education, counseling, youth development, foster care, or case management.
- Service Limits: Up to 3 hours per day and 8 hours per week, based on the child’s needs. No outside agency mentoring referrals may be provided while a child is in a residential placement. All mentoring during residential placement is expected to be covered by the residential facility’s daily rate.
